LSU Health Shreveport Interventional Cardiologists at University Health became the first in Louisiana to use a new dissolvable heart stent. Like other stents, it opens up blocked arteries leading to the heart, improving blood flow. But the Absorb stent dissolves in the body over a period of 3 to 5 years, leaving behind just two metal markers to let doctors know where the stent was placed.
