(Dumbbell Flys Vs. Cable Flys) http://www.SeanNal.com/articles/training/best-flye-exercise.php While it\'s true that basic chest pressing movements should always form the basis of your pec training routine, chest flys definitely have their place as well since they move your pecs through a different movement pattern to allow for maximum overall gains. But what is the best fly exercise out there? There are certainly many to choose from, but the two main lifts you\'ll be choosing from are dumbbell flys and cable flys. Although most people tend to recommend freeweight movements over machine and cable movements whenever possible, the truth is that in order to get the very best chest fly workout possible, you\'ll actually want to use cable flys as your primary movement. The reason for this is that dumbbell flys only place your chest under a significant amount of tension in the bottom half of the range of motion. This is due to the force of gravity (which pulls the dumbbells straight down) and the path that the resistance travels in. Cable flys solve this by pulling the resistance out to the sides instead, giving you consistent tension throughout the entire range of motion. When you examine dumbbell flys vs. cable flys in this way, it\'s clear that the cable variation is superior for hypertrophy. (If you want to perform these in a cable crossover fashion that\'s fine too) Don\'t get me wrong here, both variations are still very effective and will give you a good chest fly workout overall. If you have equipment limitations and can only perform dumbbell flyes, that\'s totally fine. (The pec deck or other forms of machine flys can be used as well) However, in terms of choosing the one that is optimal and will give you the very best pec growth possible, cable flys performed at a high to low angle will be ideal and are the best chest fly exercise out there. (This angle will emphasize the sternocostal fibers where most of the mass on your chest is located)'
