Her birthparents were teenagers; her birthmother was taken to a Florence Crittendon Home for unwed mothers against her will. Her birthfather joined the Navy. Janice experienced the primal wound and then, was adopted by an infertile couple two weeks after birth, through the First Christian Church. Adoption was to be known and not discussed. She was raised in the mid-west with an adopted brother and had three other adopted cousins of similar ages. She was identified as gifted in elementary school, becoming an Illinois State Scholar and Salutatorian of her high school class. She is first generation college, graduating magna cum laude for her Baccalaureate degree and summa cum laude for her Masters degree, and has taught at UCLA and other universities. She found and connected with her birthparents. She has held significant Design positions in Chicago and Los Angeles. She became a leading figure in her professional career of Design; advocating for the rights of Interior Design professionals in California and beyond, and now the rights of adoptees. President of J S D A Inc., a woman-owned virtual design business, her firm has recently achieved the status of B Corp for sustainable practices, a Public Benefit Corporation serving Fortune 500 and entrepreneurial technology organizations on their future live/work spaces.
