Isn’t it a sad field?’,” he says. “But it really isn’t. It’s actually quite exhilarating. You’re meeting terrific people all the time, every day.”  In this video, Dr. Gidron talks about why he finds oncology to be such an exciting field of medicine. For one, the medicine is constantly improving and incorporating leading-edge technologies and treatments. But most importantly, it gives him an opportunity to help people at one of the toughest times of their lives.  That compassion governs how he interacts with his patients and how he manages the inherent complexities of cancer care. “I think the key element is actually speaking at the level they understand. That doesn’t mean dumbing it down at all. It means speaking in terms that make sense to regular people.” As such, his conversations with patients are light on statistics and focus on easy step-by-step instructions and practical advice for coping with your diagnosis.  Dr. Gidron also describes the friendly, safe, comfortable environment he aims to foster for his patients. “I want them to be able to tell me when they’re done with treatment and — this might sound a bit crazy, but it’s true — people did tell me that they actually enjoyed their treatment process as much as one can enjoy the treatment process.” For Dr. Gidron, that is the highest compliment he can get.
