See this airport project on the SKP Design website: http://www.skpdesign.com/kalamazoo-battle-creek-airport SKP Design teamed with the aviation design consultants Reynolds, Smith and Hills (RS&H), from Jacksonville, Florida for an interior design review and collaboration on flooring designs for the new airport terminal. The Kalamazoo County Board of Aeronautics directed SKP Design to work with RS&H to create striking terrazzo tile patterns that reflect the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas. A flowing water design that reflects the concept of Michigan being known as the Third Coast complements the architectural angles of the building. The overall design incorporates warm natural materials and bright open spaces that are simple and efficient. The new terminal is a 92,000 SF facility with five gates. To separate the TSA security area from the two-story atrium space, the airport art committee saw an opportunity to create a large glass mural between the spaces. The committee selected art depicting surrounding regions. Five panels showcase urban, suburban and farming, regional recreation, orchards, and lakeshore. The treatment of the glass is a combination of etching and painting. SKP Design created the preliminary panel layout and design, and then worked with Echo Etching in Grand Rapids for the final design and execution. SKP Design works with you to determine your needs and preferences, translating those needs into conceptual design plans and/or design and construction documents.
