'Officers, detectives and PCSOs need to be able to run after an offender, to help a victim or to a colleague in need. Which is why they need to reach a certain level on the job-related fitness test at the start and throughout their time with us. To pass the fitness test you will need to reach level 5.4 on the 15m bleep test which is just under 6 minutes of running. PC Paul Garrad, from our recruitment team, shares his tips on preparing you for the fitness test: • Practice using a tennis court and run the long side and walk the short side. This will help to get your breathing in time with the real bleep test and for you to get use to the pace changes • Download a bleep test app on your phone so you can practice at home, make sure it’s the 15m version • For some people the bleeps can be a bit off putting, one way to get over this is to get a friend involved. Your friend can run to the bleeps whilst you listen to music and run alongside. This has been a really helpful technique for some of our recent student officers We know people often find the fitness test daunting so don’t feel alone if you do. If you need a little extra help, drop our recruitment team an email and they will be happy to help you through this process. Email [email protected] We are currently recruiting officers to join our new PCDA route into policing where student officers will gain a fully paid for degree whilst also earning a wage and working with our response policing teams. If you are interested in joining and want to find out more visit www.bedfordshire.police.uk/join-us'
