Ask Angela J. Episode 1: Viewer's Questions About African American Hair Care

43:39 Nov 30, 2020
A friend messaged me with some burning questions about African American hair. They gave me permission to answer them publicly. Everyone interested in commenting is welcomed as long as they are kind and considerate. I respect that my friend felt comfortable enough with me to ask trusting that I know their heart and that they sincerely desire understanding. Here are the questions: 1. Why is black hair so coarse/curly, more so than other ethnicities? 2. Why is the hair sometimes braided so tightly? 3. How often do you wash your hair? Why do you not wash it more often? 4. Why do you sometimes wrap your hair, or sleep with a satin cap/pillow case? 5. Why do some women wear wigs instead of letting their hair grow/be as it is? 6. Does black hair grow slower than other ethnicities? 7. Why have black women strayed away from their natural hair? 8. Is “nappy” hair a derogatory term or is it accepted and used in the black community? Featuring: Hair Story by Ayana D. Byrd and Lori L. Tharps
