'This exercise uses position to work muscles against gravitational force.  The primary focus is building strength in muscles to include the posterior deltoids and rhomboids. Slouching, for example during sitting and driving, results in adaptive shortening of the opposing muscles such as anterior deltoids and pectorals and continual stretching of the posterior deltoids and rhomboids resulting in weakening of these muscles and eventually leading to hyperkyphotic posture (a hump in the top of the spine).
