NEW YORK — That noise readers are hearing is the sound of the air being sucked out of New York Fashion Week. It reached crescendo Sunday night at Pier 17 near the South Street Seaport when Alexander Wang presented his latest collection. That this occasion was happening in June rather than September is something of a harbinger for the women’s runway shows after Labor Day. The CFDA has gone to lengths to accommodate Wang and a coterie of designers unsatisfied with the traditional calendar and in fairness has done well to keep them in New York after having hemorrhaged Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra, Thom Browne, and Rodarte. Wang in June, though is very much a reality, one driven home Sunday night in the open air of Lower Manhattan by Binx Walton, who closed the show, and a further half dozen models including Hiandra Martinez, Maria Miguel, Selena Forrest, Ni Haoran, Shujing Zhou, and Jessica Miller. As for the clothes, the collection took a page out of the spiral notebook labeled 1992 and added a WANG logo in ballpoint pen alongside those of Slayer and Metallica. Heavy metal makes America great again, now if only it could only rehabilitate New York Fashion Week. Credits include: Client, Alexander Wang; Collection, Collection 1; Creative direction, Alexander Wang; Styling, Karl Templer; Hair, Guido Palau; Makeup, Diane Kendal; Casting, Piergiorgio Del Moro, Samuel Ellis; Film, Damien Neva.
